The North Machine from the Italian brand Grivel is designed primarily for ice climbing and high level mountaineering.
The North Machine is positioned as an ice axe for technical glacier climbing and mountaineering. Although very technical, this ice axe is very versatile and will adapt to many demanding needs.
To guarantee its versatility, it is equipped with the Vario system. Thus, it is possible to change the types of blades very easily for a suitable use. By default, the ice axe is sold with the type 2 Ice Vario blade, ideal for technical ice climbing and mountaineering. On the back of the blade there is an adze which can be changed and/or replaced always thanks to the Vario system.
The handle is based on the G-Bone technology. The result is a thinner, but very strong handle with a good grip. The handle has a very comfortable grip with a support to prevent slipping when suspended. The handle ends in a spike made of Widia, a tungsten carbide alloy.
The North Machine is a technical but versatile ice axe with the right amount of curve to perform equally well in ice climbing and technical mountaineering in icy couloirs and north faces.
