The Snow Study Kit is a kit from BCA, which contains everything you need to study the snow and learn about avalanche safety.
Avalanche safety courses often require participants to bring all the necessary equipment to study the snow. The Snow Study Kit from BCA, designed in collaboration with American experts, contains everything you need to follow these courses but also to train yourself.
The more you get used to taking data and recognising different snow conditions, the more you will be able to prevent accidents before they happen. With this kit, train yourself to make the right decisions in case of emergency!
The Snow Study Kit contains the following items:
- Slope Meter: this compass allows to measure the angle of the slope
- Polycarbonate Crystal Card: this card includes a ruler and a grid with 2 mm increments to classify snow crystals
- Analogue thermometer : operating from -40 to 70°C, it is highly efficient and can be calibrated for greater accuracy
- Magnifier x15: this powerful magnifying glass is closed at the edges for better protection against the wind
- ECT rope: with knots every 25 cm, this 2 m rope has 2 aluminium teeth in the middle to cut through snow and ice for easy measurements
In addition, the Snow Study Kit is a lightweight kit, packed into a compact case, that contains everything you need to understand the science and structure of the snow!

- Slope Meter: this inclinometer measures the angle of the slope, from 0 to 60°. It can be easily attached to a lanyard.
- Polycarbonate Crystal Card: this card includes a ruler and a grid with 2 mm increments to classify and identify snow crystals Its translucent blue colour adds clarity.
- Analogue thermometer: working from -40 to 70°C, it is very efficient and can be calibrated for more precision. It will allow you to measure the temperature of your snow cover and to observe the evolution of its different layers.
- Magnifier x15: this powerful magnifying glass is closed at the edges for better protection against the wind and allows you to observe crystals in detail for a better analysis of the snowpack. The lenses are scratch-resistant.
- ECT rope: with knots every 25 cm, this 2 m rope has 2 aluminium teeth in the middle to cut through snow and ice for easy measuring. It allows the isolation of a snow column to study its behaviour (Extended Column Test). Two handles at the ends make sawing easier.
