Connected avalanche probe -
The IProbe BT+ 260 from the brand Pieps is an avalanche probe that transforms a mechanical operation into a fast, electronically assisted procedure.
Operating at a reception frequency of 457 kHz, this electronic probe offers immediate acoustic and optical detection, signalled by a beep as soon as the operator approaches the victim. The system provides a precise indication of the strike distance, displaying a maximum range from 50 cm down to 0 cm, considerably reducing the time between beacon localisation and the start of digging. Measuring 300 cm in length, this probe has an overall reach of approximately 350 cm. For complex multiple rescue situations, the iPROBE technology is compatible with the automatic standby mode of Pieps beacons and can be adjusted via the app.
This probe is made up of 7 sturdy rods with a 12.5 mm diameter. It deploys quickly thanks to a simple and fast tension mechanism, secured by a quick-release clasp that instantly locks the probe in position. Despite the embedded electronics, it maintains a featherweight of 460 grams (batteries included), a major advantage for ski touring and mountaineering practitioners. It boasts a battery life of 100 hours and can be used between -20°C and 45°C. The integration of Bluetooth® technology allows wireless management and firmware updates via the PIEPS app, ensuring the tool is always up to date. A centimetre-graded scale completes the equipment for surgical precision during excavation.
